What is
Hypnosis?
A perfectly safe and natural state. There is nothing "magical"
about it, there will be no swinging watches and no one will ask you to
do anything unusual. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis. It is
simply a very deep relaxed state, where your concentration is focussed
inwardly as it is when you are "miles away" engrossed in a book,
or daydreaming.
It must also be noted that hypnosis is not a magical "cure,"
generally clients will be given follow up work to do to assist their own
therapy. I do not wave magic wands to make you better, there needs to
be input from you!
Will I say things
I don't want to?
No you won't. Your mind will still be in control. You may choose to speak,
or remain silent just as you always do.
Will I know what
is happening to me?
Yes you will, in fact you will be in control all the time, not the therapist.
At any time you will be able to open your eyes, speak, or get up and walk,
as you wish. You will be fully aware of what is happening to you.
What will happen?
I will gently relax your mind so you can be mentally and physically peaceful.
With the help of your subconscious, we will examine the parts of your
mind that are causing you problems and help you to discover more appropriate
solutions. I will teach you various techniques which you will need to
practise. I might even make you a tape which you can listen to daily.
What if you can't
get me back?
This is an unfounded fear, remember you are still fully conscious. Even
if I were to walk out of the room (which I wouldn't) you would either
drift off into a sleep, or you would jump up and say "hey, where
are you going?"
Are there some
people who can't be hypnotised?
It is very rare if you can't enter the trance state. Have you ever been
talking to someone and become aware that you have missed part of the conversation
because you were "miles away?" Have you, when driving, reached
your destination and can't remember driving the last few miles? Have you
been so involved in a book that you haven't realised it has got dark,
or not heard someone calling you? At such times you were in a trance state,
in fact you were in self-hypnosis.
How many visits
will I need?
If you wish to stop smoking, lose weight, or have exam nerves, usually
two to three sessions. Deeper seated problems may need six to ten sessions.
What problems
can be helped?
Virtually anything can benefit from hypnosis, it can even improve your
sports performance!
